Prologue 7/5/02 Trimble Mountain Tour de Burg Prologue The cowbells were ringing through the hot dusty air as thousands of raving spectators witnessed a record setting prologue of the 2002 Tour de Burg. Jeremiah Bishop raised the bar yet again as he blasted through the 24 minute barrier posting a course record of 23:14. Despite avoiding the spotlight all spring, Paul Buschetti showed he was on form breezing into Todd Lake with a very fast 24:05. Inside sources at the bagel factory have aroused suspicion that Buschetti has made a commitment to team green this has yet to be seen-but the truth will unfold over the remaining six days. Not far behind and rounding out the podium was Frenchman Jerome Vimptey whose home field advantage and Grand Tour experience has his sponsors licking their lips. On a day that was plagued with flats and mechanicals, many top contenders were forced to minimize the damage and stay in the hunt for the next few. In the skin suit of the national champion, American Dylan Johnson snuck in right before the first "official" team green rider, Joel Maynario, perhaps the only glimmer of hope still remaining for team Green. Team Clean is obviously pulling out all the stops for this year's tour sneaking in the British assassin Chris Eatough in a mysterious black van, only moments before the start. Although he to fell victim to puncture, his scorching pace kept him under the 26 minute mark and still a threatening position for the week to come. Another huge peloton kicked off this year's tour as 33 racers went under the clock today on what was probably the fastest trail conditions in the life of the Trimble Mtn Trail. Response to the terrorist threat was evident as tour directors had forces posted throughout the course and even performed a pre race maintenance session to ensure the trail was in its buffest conditions ever. All 3 members of the Mexican/Sveedish Quinn family were present for today's prologue with the eldest, Oliversito posting the fastest lap and showing he will be a strong contender for the downhiller's jersey. There was apprehension in the air following the prologue as riders were whisked off to their team jets and helicopters to be air lifted to their hotels and soigneurs. Tomorrow's stage will offer no chance for anyone to hide in the peloton, as the assault on Elliot's knob will open the floodgate on even the strongest soul. Wholesale carnage will be the theme for Saturday and be sure the podium will be shaken up, tune in tomorrow for an update.
